The food label must state the name and address of the manufacturer or of the person preparing the food and its country of preparation or origin, and where the food is prepared in Trinidad and Tobago by someone other than the manufacturer, that person's local name and postal address must appear next to the manufacturer's; bulk containers name the manufacturer, packager, importer or wholesaler (Food and Drugs Regulations reg. 16 and the bulk-container rule that follows it).
Regulation 16 requires the brand or trade name, common name and net contents on the main panel, then ingredients, added preservatives, colours and flavourings, expiry or date mark and storage instructions, with the batch or lot number and any required registration number on any panel; all declarations must be in English, and the Chemistry, Food and Drugs Division administers the Act and Regulations.
Section 4 of the Food and Drugs Act makes it an offence to advertise any food, drug, cosmetic or device to the general public as a treatment, preventative or cure for the diseases and disorders listed in the First Schedule, unless the Regulations permit it.
